Task goals

  • Read a single value directly off a simple linear scale, such as a ruler, jug or thermometer, and look up a single value from a one-way reference table such as a price list or conversion table.
  • Interpolate between unmarked graduations on varied instrument scales, and cross-reference a two-way reference table -- such as a distance chart between towns or a postage-cost table -- to find a required value.
  • Combine scale-reading and table interpretation with metric unit conversion to solve a multi-step practical problem, such as converting a measured scale reading into a different metric unit before checking it against a reference table.
