Task goals

• Identify which place a given digit sits in, for whole numbers and decimals.
• State the value of a digit based on its place in a whole number or decimal.
• Read and write whole numbers and decimals in numerals and in words.
• Compare two numbers using <, >, or = by reasoning about place value, including decimals with different numbers of decimal places.
• Order a list of whole numbers or decimals from smallest to largest or largest to smallest.
• Partition a whole number or decimal into its place-value parts (e.g. hundreds, tens, ones, tenths, hundredths).
• Explain, using place value, why one decimal is greater or smaller than another (e.g. why 0.5 > 0.05).
