Task goals
- Extract the relevant numbers from a short real-life scenario and perform a single calculation, such as an addition, multiplication or unit conversion, to answer it.
- Calculate a unit rate or unit price, such as cost per litre or km per hour, in order to compare value or work out a total.
- Combine two or more operations, including rates, ratios or percentages, to solve a multi-step real-life numeracy problem and justify the answer with correct units.
- Read and interpret information from an everyday source such as a bill, timetable, recipe or map, and use it to answer a practical question.
- Critically interpret a real-life scenario that contains extraneous or missing information, select an appropriate strategy, and evaluate whether the final answer is reasonable in context.
