Task goals
- Multiply coefficients accurately in products such as $4a\times6b=24ab$ and $2a\times3b\times4=24ab$.
- Gather unlike variables into one simplified product without using powers yet, for example $7x\times2y=14xy$.
- Use rectangles and split shapes to write and simplify area expressions such as $7x\times2y$ and $2x\times6y+3x\times2y$.
- Spot and correct common errors such as adding coefficients in $4x\times3y$ or moving too early to $x^2$ work.
