Task goals

  • Identify whether a given mapping from a point to its image is a translation, reflection, or enlargement.
  • Write the translation vector for a given shift, or find the image of a point or shape translated by a given vector.
  • Reflect a point or a shape in the x-axis or y-axis and write the coordinates of the image.
  • Find the scale factor of an enlargement given the side lengths, or the change in side length, of a shape and its image.
  • Enlarge a point or a shape from a centre of enlargement by a given scale factor, including a fractional scale factor, and find the coordinates of the image.
  • Reflect a point or shape in a mirror line other than the x-axis or y-axis, such as x = c or y = c, and name or use that line.
  • Describe fully a single transformation (translation, reflection, or enlargement) that maps one given shape or point onto another.
  • Explain which properties, such as side lengths, angles, congruence, or similarity, are preserved by translation, reflection, and enlargement, and compare the three transformations.
