Task goals
- Find a percentage of a quantity using the decimal-multiplier method (percentage as a decimal times the quantity).
- Read a proportion number line (given the total and a percentage) to find the missing part.
- Apply the method to GST calculations (finding the GST amount, and the GST-inclusive or GST-exclusive price).
- Apply the method to simple interest calculations (principal times rate times time).
- Apply the method to a single-period depreciation or markup calculation.
- Extend to compound interest (applying the percentage-of-a-quantity method repeatedly, one period at a time) and to reverse problems (given the result, find the original quantity or rate).
