Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Mana Maths (manamaths.co.nz) is a New Zealand website providing maths teaching resources aligned to the New Zealand Curriculum — printable worksheets, lesson notes, answer sheets, and the Cheeky Kea worksheet request builder. It is operated by William McIntosh in New Zealand (“we”, “us”, “our”).
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we look after it, and the rights you have under the Privacy Act 2020.
2. What we collect
- Browsing the resource library — no account is needed. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically processes standard request data such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages requested, and timestamps. This is used to deliver pages and keep the site secure.
- Site analytics (only with your consent) — if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how you found and used the site: pages viewed, how long you stayed, the website or search that brought you here, and your approximate region and device/browser type. We use this to understand which resources teachers actually use.
- Signing in to Cheeky Kea — when you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier, held by our authentication provider (Supabase). We never see your Google password.
- Using Cheeky Kea — the worksheet requests you write, the options you choose (resource type, level, number of questions), the resources generated for you (worksheets and answer files), the status and history of your jobs, and your usage quota.
- Saved on your own device — an unfinished Kea request is stored in your browser’s local storage so you don’t lose your work. It stays on your device until you submit it, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
3. What we don’t do
- No advertising networks, and no tracking you across other websites.
- Google Analytics runs only if you explicitly accept it on the cookie banner — decline and no analytics code loads at all.
- We don’t sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
- We don’t create accounts for students, and we don’t knowingly collect children’s personal information.
4. How we use your information
- to operate and secure the website;
- to sign you in and keep your generated resources private to your account;
- to generate the worksheets and resources you ask for;
- to manage usage quotas so the service stays available for everyone;
- to respond to questions and support requests;
- to understand how the site is found and used — only if you accept analytics cookies; and
- to comply with our legal obligations.
We won’t use your personal information for unrelated purposes without telling you first, as the Privacy Act requires.
5. Where your information is stored and processed
We’re based in New Zealand, but the providers that run the site are global. Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries outside New Zealand (this is a “cross-border disclosure” under principle 12 of the Privacy Act):
- Cloudflare — website hosting and content delivery, on servers around the world;
- Supabase — account and Cheeky Kea data, on servers that may be outside New Zealand;
- Google — sign-in authentication, and Google Analytics if you accept analytics cookies.
We only disclose what’s needed to run the service, and we choose reputable providers that apply their own security safeguards.
6. How we protect your information
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information, including: HTTPS everywhere; generated resources held in private storage that only your account can access; sign-in handled by Google so we store no passwords; and access limited to what’s needed to operate the service.
No system is perfectly secure. If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account and generated resources while your account is active. Hosting logs are retained only for short periods under our providers’ standard policies. If you ask us to delete your account, we’ll delete your profile, generated resources, and associated data within a reasonable timeframe, except for anything we’re required by law to keep.
8. Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it’s wrong. Email hello@manamaths.co.nz and we’ll respond as soon as reasonably practicable, and always within the timeframes set by the Privacy Act.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
9. Cookies and browser storage
The site uses your browser’s local storage for functional purposes — keeping you signed in, saving your unfinished Kea draft, and remembering your cookie choice. These stay on your device, and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings.
If you click Accept on the cookie banner, Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga, which can last up to two years) that show us overall traffic patterns — which pages are visited and where visitors come from. If you click Decline, the analytics code never loads and no analytics cookies are set. See Google’s privacy policy for how Google handles this data.
You can change your mind at any time: — the page reloads and the banner appears again.
10. Students and children
Mana Maths is built for teachers. Students never need accounts to use our printed resources. Please don’t include students’ names or other personal information in Cheeky Kea requests — a good request describes the maths, not the learners.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version always lives on this page with its “last updated” date, and your continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
